On Oxy Lance, JWPaton presents a multi-part suite of mangled sound, drawing inspiration (and source material) from the intersection of urban and rural environments. Originally presented as an audio-visual piece on the Oxtail Recordings Undercurrents livestream, the track is a meditation on domesticity, familiarity and repetition, and the many things that can interrupt those states.
JWPaton is a Yuin musician based in Western Sydney. He uses alternative sounds and field recordings from both the natural and the human-made worlds to create rich, thick, time-stretched padded ambience. He’s recently presented work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Sydney Biennale, in addition to his work as a graphic designer and educator.
